Mission statement/reflection statement:

While Exploring the materials to build the sculptures, I wanted to focus on creating pieces that I felt would look unique and that I would keep because I enjoy feeling the admiration for my pieces when they turn out to be something I can look at on the daily, something to be proud of. I decided to include bits of pop culture into my first one as I felt it was something I was more then likely going to be motivated to work on even in my depressed state. However I felt my work was lacking due to its abstract nature which I hold a distaste to when not done correctly. So I tried to experiment with different perspectives. I want to keep exploring different sculptures but ones with more shaped forms, and I would like to learn more about the craft as while I'm not much into Architecture as I enjoy my art in the 2d perspective such as Photography and illustration, I felt this was something to make me think outside the box. This piece allowed me to explore something beyond physical thinking and rather just doing and seeing where the wind takes me. The making of this work exposed me to new ideas of working with wood and yard and hot glue to craft something truly interesting.

A Long Tale for an Autumn Night (Aki no yo nagamonogatari)

Unidentified artist

"This scene, a detached section from a set of three illustrated narrative handscrolls (emakimono), presents the conclusion of the amorous tale of a Buddhist monk and his young acolyte, who in a previous scene has taken his own life by drowning. A procession for raigo-e, a ritual ceremony celebrating Amida Buddha and his retinue of bodhisattvas, descends and crosses a bridge to welcome the souls of the departed and guide them to paradise with music and song."

Decision making:

In the making of my project, I wanted to incorporate visuals of floral and fauna into my piece, while also stabilizing a Peak. As I was working on it I came across a few diffrent pieces that I felt would stand out to me and help my vision in making a natural yet structured array of Japanese scenery. The two artworks above encompassed the ideas I was looking for, as the "A Long Tale for an Autumn Night" for instance had alot of natural bits while also feeling familiar in its design.

Movie titiles: Stranger Things and Coraline

Artist Statement:

Through the process of comprising objects that would exhibit this Fluxus Box, I wanted to create symbols or semiotics of mystery and fear and the unknown. The feeling of stepping inside the box to another dimension. Comprised of Foam Board, Tape, Hot glue and paper I combined these objects to create this feeling and come full circle in my piece.

Notes for Fluxus Box:

The Movie theme for my Fluxus box are Coraline and Stranger Things. The process of making the box started off with a Foam base, and from there I covered each side with Stock paper that I felt would match the color of the movies I chose. I wanted the main focus to be on the pop culture symbol the "Alphabet wall" from Stranger Things and I had a lot of fun making that side of the box. I only wish I wasn't broke while making the box as it would of been epic to incorporate the actual Christmas lights onto it and create it into an insightful schematic. At the end of the day I was truly having fun with project and had there not of been a time limit on it (Thanksgiving break sort of took a hit to the available time) I feel it would of turned out to be a truly phenomenal piece in my eyes. Unfortunately I had to cut my expectations short as pay day wasn't until the week after it was due to buy supplies for the objects and outside design and the deadline was soon. I would not say I'm too proud of the finished piece certainty not worth burning myself and creating a scar on my finger for with the hot glue gun. I only wished I could of had the time to truly flesh it out.
